Australian Painted Lady Butterflies
Monday 15 October, 2012
Australian Painted Lady Butterflies (Vanessa kershawi) are a medium-sized butterfly.
Adults fly during sunny periods and frequently bask on a leaf, flower or twig with their wings outspread.
They are found throughout Victoria and most of south and eastern Australia. They live in a wide variety of habitats including urban gardens.
The caterpillars of these butterflies feed on native everlastings, paper daisies, cudweed and other daisies.
The caterpillars are brown and spiky with a pale yellow stripe along each side.
