New Loos for Blanket Bay, Aire River and Johanna Beach Campgrounds
Friday 15 June, 2012
Parks Victoria is replacing the toilets at Blanket Bay, Aire River and Johanna Beach campgrounds.
The new loos will be vaulted toilets which are more environmentally friendly. A vault toilet is a waterless pit toilet which uses environmentally friendly chemicals to compost the waste. They are often used in remote areas not serviced by a sewer system, and are pumped out regularly.
New toilets will also be built at the Cape Otway Lightstation car park and at Wreck Beach to meet an increasing demand for facilities at these sites. The facilities are being delivered by Parks Victoria through Regional Development Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government.
Jack Dinkgreve, Ranger in Charge at Apollo Bay says the toilet upgrades continue the program of park improvement.
“The Great Otway National Park is a very popular park, and the campgrounds are increasingly busy," said Mr Dinkgrieve. “We have been making some terrific improvements at these campgrounds and the toilets will be a very welcome addition.”
