Fox control - East Gippsland parks

Thursday 4 October, 2012

Parks Victoria’s conservation management includes the control of introduced plant and animal species. As part of an ongoing strategy notice is hereby given that Parks Victoria will be laying buried baits containing Sodium Monofluoroacetate (1080 poison) on public land for the control of foxes. Baits containing 1080 poison will be laid from Monday 15 October 2012 until Friday 21 December 2012 at strategic sites within The Lakes National Park, Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, Clydebank Morass, Dowd Morass and Heart Morass state wildlife reserves and Holey Plains State Park.

A second program will be conducted in the Holey Plains State Park from Monday 4 February 2013 to Friday 19 April 2013.

1080 poison signs will be posted throughout the baited area and members of the public who are living, visiting or working in the above named locations are advised to take particular care not to disturb or interfere with bait stations. Domestic dogs and cats are particularly susceptible to 1080 poison and should be under effective control, muzzled or kept away from the poisoned areas.

The public is advised that dogs are not permitted in wildlife reserves during this program and at all times in The Lakes National Park, Holey Plains State Park and parts of the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park.
