Wild dog and fox control - Snowy River National Park

Wednesday 3 July, 2013

Parks Victoria’s conservation management includes the control of introduced plant and animal species. As part of an ongoing Targeted Predator Baiting Program, notice is hereby given that Parks Victoria will be laying buriedbaits containing Sodium Monofluoroacetate (1080 poison)along access tracks on public land for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Baits containing 1080 poison will be laid from Sunday 1 July 2013 until Sunday 30 June 2014.

Baits will be laid at strategic sites within the Snowy River National Park and adjacent State Forest, where wild dogs and foxes threaten natural fauna, including the Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby and Spotted Quoll. These locations include areas adjacent to freehold land along public roads within the Snowy River National Park (including along the Snowy River itself), and within the parishes of Wulgulmerang East and Gelantipy East.

1080 poison signs will be posted throughout the baited area and members of the public who are living, visiting or working in the above named areas are advised to take particular care not to disturb or interfere with bait stations. Domestic dogs and catsare particularly susceptible to 1080 poison and should be under effective control, muzzled or kept away from the baited areas.
