Parks Victoria went to open tender for the pier renewal project in early June 2014.   Contractor submissions are due for lodgement by the end of June and will respond to a brief to build a new 175 metre long 4.5 metre wide pier aligned alongside the existing pier.

The new pier is designed to last for fifty years and will meet the access needs of the aquaculture and other marine industries based on the Bellarine Peninsula.

The project also includes minor works to the existing Portarlington pier to make it safe for pedestrian access for the next ten years.  Importantly, the design of the pier ensures that there is provision on the pier structure for the future installation of wave screens to protect vessels berthed at the proposed ferry and expanded aquaculture industry berthing area.

Minister for Ports David Hodgett announced over $3 million in funding from the Victorian Government for this project. It is scheduled for completion by mid 2015 with construction works due to commence later this year.
