Portarlington’s foreshore is a busy place with the start of a $15 million project to redevelop the harbour.

The harbour is the home of Port Phillip Bay’s aquaculture industry with the pier the central piece of infrastructure used by the mussel farming industry.

The upgrade to the pier will provide a new 175 metre section, which will increase access and vehicle load limits.

PW Johnson Constructions Pty Ltd has been appointed by Parks Victoria to undertake the job with the project due for completion in mid-2015.

Pedestrian and aquaculture industry access to the pier will be maintained throughout the project. There will be some short term closures in the interests of visitor safety when equipment is being moved around the construction area.

Detailed planning for future stages of the Portarlington Safe Harbour development is underway and will reflect the vision outlined in the safe harbour master plan.
