Parks Victoria went to open tender for the pier renewal project in early June 2014.   The project will build a new 175 metre long 4.5 metre wide pier aligned alongside the existing pier.

The new pier is designed to last for fifty years and will meet the access needs of the aquaculture and other marine industries based on the Bellarine Peninsula.

The project also includes minor works to the existing Portarlington pier to make it safe for pedestrian access for the next ten years.  Importantly, the design of the pier ensures that there is provision on the pier structure for the future installation of wave screens to protect berthed vessels berthed and expand the aquaculture industry berthing area.

$3.25 million in funding has been made available by the Victorian Government for this project. It is scheduled for completion by mid 2015 with construction works to commence 2 February 2015.
