Wilderness retreats

Located in a tranquil area of the campground, Wilderness Camp at Buchan Caves Reserve provides a “close to nature” experience of bush camping with all the conveniences of modern cabins. The tents sit on an innovative modular galvanised steel frame that does not require concrete footings.

This is low impact accommodation that touches the earth lightly.

Two Wilderness Tents (01 Acacia and 02 Blackwood) have:

  • a timber deck and a lockable door
  • a queen size bed and 2 bed side tables (bed linen, doonas, blankets and towels provided)
  • a trundle single bed (located under the queen size bed)
  • a futon chair that converts to a single bed
  • a blanket box and a towel rack
  • split system air conditioning
  • a small fridge
  • table and chairs inside and on the deck
  • lights inside and on the deck
Three Wilderness Tents (03 Blue Gum, 04 Kanooka and 05 Kurrajong) have:
  • a timber deck and a lockable door
  • 3 bunk beds - bring your own linen (pillows, sheets, doonas/sleeping bags and towels)
  • split system air conditioning
  • a small fridge
  • table and chairs inside and on the deck
  • lights inside and on the deck

A clean and well lit toilet and shower facility is close by. Please note that smoking is not permitted inside the Wilderness Camps.

Two Wilderness Tents are set up for couples but can sleep doubles or up to four people by making use of the trundle bed and futon. Three Wilderness Tents are set up for groups or larger families, with 3 bunk beds and can sleep up to 6 people.  To preserve the experience for all guests, and to allow wildlife to roam safely, no cars are allowed inside the Wilderness Camp area. There is a car park for guests conveniently located near the camp. A luggage trolley is available at the car park to assist with the short walk to your tent.

Wilderness Camp guests can make use of the communal kitchen. The well equipped kitchen contains:

  • cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils and tea towels
  • stainless steel benches and sinks
  • a gas cook top
  • a full size fridge
  • hot and cold water
  • tea and coffee making facilities, a microwave oven and a toaster

There is also a covered, tranquil BBQ area with seating for guests outside the kitchen. Guests just need to bring their own food and drinks and linen, if staying in Wilderness Tent 03, 04 or 05.

To make your experience enjoyable, we recommend you bring comfortable shoes, insect repellent and a torch.
