Slaty Creek is a great place to enjoy a bush picnic close to the township of Creswick.

Pan for gold along the meandering creek, take a stroll beside old water races, or simply sit and watch the bush come alive with many species of birds.

The campgrounds are located on the creek flats and are surrounded by tall Manna Gums.

No booking is required. Camping is on a first in, first-served basis.

There are three basic bush camping area available. All campsites are unpowered.

Number 1 has non-flush toilets, picnic table, fireplace and access to the Goldfields Track. It also has disabled access and is more suitable for larger groups.

Number 2 has a fireplace available but no toilets.

Number 3 has a fireplace and a picnic table but no toilets. All campsites are unpowered and are suitable for motor homes as well as tents.

Only allowed in the fireplace provided – supply your own wood. Fuel stoves are preferred for cooking.

No drinking water is available – supply your own.

Campfire guidelines

  • Light fires only in the fireplaces provided or use a portable camping stove instead
  • Ensure fires are never left unattended and are completely out before you leave
  • During summer and autumn Total Fire Bans are common - this means no open fires can be lit
