Starting in the coastal township of Marlo, the Snowy River Estuary Walk provides an amazing insight into unique environs surrounding the lower reaches of the Snowy River estuary, linking through to the wild ocean beach opposite Frenches Narrows.
The walk provides breathtaking elevated views of the estuary, river mouth and the sweep of coastline to Point Ricardo in the east. The numerous boardwalk sections provide excellent vantage points to observe birdlife and other inhabitants of the backwaters and wetlands.
The walk is a comfortable 5.1km in distance and takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes one way.
The Snowy River Estuary Walk classification is Level 1 from Marlo to Mots Beach and Level 2 from Mots Beach to Ocean Beach.
How to get there
Turn off the Princes Highway (A1) at Orbost onto the Marlo road (C107). The walk can be accessed from a number of points within the Marlo Township between Jorgensen Street and Mills Street, with car parking at Sampsons Lookout.
Alternatively, the walk can be accessed via the Mots Beach car park (2kms east of Marlo) or via the steps from the Frenches Narrows car park (3km east of Marlo).
Parking and picnic facilities are available along the Snowy River Estuary Walk. Public toilets available in Marlo town centre.
Dogs must be on a leash. Horses are not permitted on the walking track in the Reserve. Cyclists may use parts of the track with care.
