Camp fires

Mount Eccles campgroud is an attractive camping area which lies in protected hollows between rocky ridges from lava flows approximately 250 metres from the crater rim. Toilets, water (untreated, natural supply), hot showers and ten shared fireplaces are provided.

The picnic ground has two sheltered gas barbecues with tables, and an information shelter.

The campground has campsites of various sizes, some suitable for small caravans and camper-trailerss.  Camp fees apply for all sites and bookings are required. A campsite can accommodate up to six people with provision for one vehicle per campsite .

Site 3 is suitable for campers with disabilities and includes nearby access to toilets and washing facilities.

Rangers regularly visit the campground and check camping permits. Advance bookings and payment are required year round.
