The final plan for the former Olinda Golf Course provides for a mix of community uses. The flat, upper area will become the Olinda Green, a space for community events and gatherings. Alongside, a nature-based playspace will be an attraction for locals and visitors. Olinda Green will include a new informal playing field to provide a training space and overflow field for an active growing community. Off-lead dog walking will be available in a designated area of the reserve. A town walk along the Olinda Monbulk Road will link key sites from the Olinda town centre to Cloudehill, encouraging walking and exploring. Part of Chalet Road will be realigned to improve connections between the Olinda Pool, the Olinda Community House and the new Olinda Green. A new, more visible entrance will be established to the National Rhododendron Gardens, a very popular tourism attraction that brings many people to the area.
The plan will be implemented as funding becomes available, with priority placed on trail linkages, the establishment of Olinda Green and the nature-based playspace. Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped to shape the plan.
The 34 hectare former Olinda Golf Course site is situated on the Olinda-Monbulk Road, Olinda adjacent to the National Rhododendron Gardens and RJ Hamer Arboretum, and only 500 metres south of the Olinda Township. The site is no longer sustainable as an 18-hole golf course and the land is reserved for public recreation.
