Stage 1 Summary

Thank you to everyone who provided comments and ideas in stage 1 of the project.

A summary of some of the main ideas is presented in the Olinda Connect Precinct Plan Community Update #2 (500kb PDF)

The 34 hectare former Olinda Golf Course site is situated on the Olinda-Monbulk Road, Olinda adjacent to the National Rhododendron Gardens and RJ Hamer Arboretum, and only 500 metres south of the Olinda Township.  The site is no longer sustainable as an 18-hole golf course and the land is reserved for public recreation.

In 2015 the local member of parliament, James Merlino MP asked local people to provide their views and ideas for the future of the golf course site. Over 160 submissions were received. The current planning picks up that valuable work and carries forward to develop an overall precinct plan.

Parks Victoria will focus on a plan for use of the former Olinda Golf Course site that will provide recreational and tourism benefits for the local community and Victorian public. Yarra Ranges Council will focus on connections to the Olinda township and making it simpler and easier for locals and visitors to walk between the many attractions in Olinda. A Project Steering Group is convened by the local member James Merlino MP and includes members of local community groups, businesses and sports clubs.

How is the plan being developed?

Community engagement will occur in three stages, with a number of opportunities to be part of shaping the plan.

1. Seek initial ideas

2. Consult on draft Township Connections Plan and draft concepts for former Olinda Golf Course

3. Consultation on draft Precinct Plan for Olinda Golf course site
