Gunaikurnai Joint Management Plan
The Gunaikurnai Traditional Owner Land Management Board (GKTOLMB) are currently developing a Joint Management Plan in consultation with Parks Victoria and the Department of Environment Land, Water and Planning. The plan will cover the ten parks and reserves for which the Gunaikurnai have gained Aboriginal Title as a result of the 2010 Traditional Owners Land Management Agreement.
The plan will supersede any existing plans and set out objectives for achieving sustainable management within the existing legal framework and in accordance with recognised management principles. It will also provide strategic and operational direction for the ongoing management of these parks and reserves.
If you would like to be involved please visit www.gunaikurnai.com.au. The draft plan is due to be released for public comment toward the end of 2015.
Aboriginal Traditional Owners
The Gunaikurnai Traditional Owners' strong connection with the land has been legally recognised in a settlement agreement that enables them to jointly manage 10 parks in Eastern Victoria, including Raymond Island Gippsland Lakes Reserve.
