Newcastle Block has separate male and female toilets/showers with a semi-accessible toilet cubicle in each. Access is best from the main road side of the block where the ground is reasonably level and compacted.
Newcastle Block at Tidal River
The semi-accessible toilet cubicles have outward opening swinging doors. The entrance to the cubicle is a little narrow at approximately 780mm wide. The toilets in the cubicles have grab railings on one side and behind the toilet. At 134 centimetres, the flush buttons are quite high off the floor and may be hard to reach for some people.
Both toilets at Newcastle Block have grab railings
There is one shower cubicle in each of the male and female toilets that is more accessible than the other showers. There is no step into the shower and there are grab railings under the shower on two walls. The shower nozzle can be hand held if desired. There is no shower seat in these showers. The shower cubicle is quite narrow with very little room for maneuverability. There is a bench seat in the change area of the cubicle. This seat restricts the entrance space and reduces the shower cubicle entrance to approximately 720mm wide.

There is a separate launderette in the block. This is accessible from the front of the block by going over a small, compacted gravel path. It has a narrow entrance (approximately 730mm) and is quite narrow inside with not much maneuverability space at the sink and washing machine. The washing machines are front load and the controls are reasonably easy to reach. There is a large sink and smaller kitchen-sized sink located in the laundry. The smaller sink is the most accessible, with a roll under feature for wheelchairs and a mixer lever tap which is relatively easy to reach.
