Thursday 23 May, 2019

Parks Victoria’s conservation management to restore and protect park habitat includes the control of introduced plant and animal species. As part of an ongoing strategy, notice is hereby given that Parks Victoria will be laying buriedbaits containing Sodium Monofluoroacetate (1080 poison)and Para-aminopropiophenone (PAPP poison) on public and private land for the control of foxes.

Baits containing 1080 poison and PAPP poison will be laid at strategic sites and other known areas of fox habitat within the Great Otway National Park and surrounds from 1 June 2019 until 30 June 2021. This will be part of an expansion to the existing Otway Ark fox baiting program, with new baits located in Otway Forest Park Boonah, Otway Forest Park Wymbooliel, Otway Forest Park Olangolah, Paddy’s Swamp, Aire Valley Plantation, partnering properties Hordenvale and Otway Forest Park south east of Lavers Hill. Neighboring properties will be notified by mail.

1080/PAPP poison signs will be posted throughout the baited area and members of the public who are living, visiting or working in the above named areas are advised to take particular care not to disturb or interfere with bait stations. Domestic dogs and catsare particularly susceptible to 1080 and PAPP poison and should be under effective control, muzzled or kept away from the baited areas. This initiative is in conjunction with the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and the Conservation Ecology Centre, Cape Otway.
