Notice controlling navigation in the vicinity of works - Patterson River bridge

Thursday 29 November, 2018

Marine Safety Act 2010
Section 211(1)(b)

Parks Victoria, as the declared waterway manager for the waters of the Patterson River upstream of Nepean Highway Bridge to Eumemmering Creek, makes the following notice under section 211(1)(b)(i) of the Marine Safety Act 2010 (the Act).

The notice published in the Victoria Government Gazette, No. S130 dated Thursday 22 March 2018, in relation to the work area arrangements for the purpose of constructing a bridge over Patterson River is replaced with the following notice.

For the purposes of the works activity proposed by Southern Program Alliance (SPA), sub-contractors Fitzgerald Constructions Australia Pty Ltd will establish works areas for the purpose of constructing a bridge over Patterson River. The navigation and other movement of vessels in the works areas is prohibited, excluding vessels involved in the works, Parks Victoria vessels and Victoria Police vessels.

The works areas will be located between 60 metres upstream and 60 metres downstream of Nepean Highway Bridge. There are three work area arrangements to facilitate a series of bridge span closures:

  • Works Zone One: Northern span river closure with vessel traffic restricted to the southern span.
  • Works Zone Two: Southern span river closure with vessel traffic restricted to the northern span.
  • Works Zone Three: Temporary full river closure for short durations to enable work zone transitions (barge and buoyage movement) and for two bridge beam installations.

The work area arrangements will be activated and marked by water communication buoys. Bridge spans will be open to one-way vessel traffic only. Downstream vessels (transiting in from Port Phillip) have right of way.

Notice of temporary full river closures will be published in advance via a Notice to Mariners.

This notice has effect for the duration of works from the time of publication of this notice to 5.00pm on 31 March 2019.

Times and dates are subject to change. Changes to times or dates will be advertised on Parks Victoria website via a Notice to Mariners (NTM).
