Albert Park - New Office

Artists concept

New green home for Parks Victoria at Albert Park

The current Parks Victoria Albert Park office is relocating to allow room for construction of the new South Melbourne Park Primary School, announced by the Victorian Government last year.

Work on the new school in Albert Road Drive South commences in January 2017. Therefore, Parks Victoria will move to a temporary location in the western edge of Albert Park; adjacent to the Langridge Street light rail underpass by the end of this year and a brand new home about one year later.

Work has been underway to plan a new green home. A combined new office and depot will replace the current State Bank Pavilion, a run-down and underutilised building off Aughtie Drive.

The initial concept design is a sustainable, contemporary building that will harmonise with the environment, sit lightly on the parkland and maximise rangers’ views of activities within the park.

Among many environmental features will be timber finishes, a living green facade, a garden courtyard connected to the rest of the park, and location of the Parks Victoria nursery near the front of the building instead of the rear.

The $5 million building will significantly improve opportunities for visitor access and engagement.
