Nominations open for 2014 Parks Victoria Kookaburra Awards

Monday 3 February, 2014

Nominations have opened for the 2014 Parks Victoria Kookaburra Awards that recognise individuals and groups for their outstanding volunteer contributions to Victoria’s parks and reserves.

Parks Victoria Chief Executive, Dr Bill Jackson said the awards celebrate the enormous efforts of volunteers who help care for Victoria’s parks each year and whose contributions benefit the whole community.

“I encourage people to nominate a volunteer group or individual who have made a significant contribution to Victoria’s parks,” said Dr Jackson.

“The Kookaburra Awards give us a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge volunteers and to encourage more members of the community to connect with Victoria’s natural environment.”

Kookaburra Award 2014 categories:

  • Conserving Special Places Kookaburra Award ( Group award).
  • Connecting People and Parks Kookaburra Award (Group award).
  • Providing Benefits Beyond Park Boundaries Kookaburra Award (Group award).
  • Individual Achievement Kookaburra Award (Individual award).

Award winners will be announced at regional volunteer recognition events to be held during National Volunteer Week in May 2014.

Nominations close on Friday 14 March 2014.

“Volunteers greatly assist us to connect people with parks and conserve Victoria’s 4 million hectares of special places, and help make them accessible to all.”

Last year, volunteers contributed a Parks Victoria record of 211,640 volunteer hours, which equates to almost 29,000 days.
