Pile Bend firewood collection area to close

Thursday 18 May, 2017

The designated domestic firewood collection area near Robinvale at Pile Bend - Shoe Tree will close at midnight Friday 19 May 2017.

“The available supply of firewood has been collected from the site before the end of the autumn collection season, so the site will close early,” said Ian Curwood, District Manager North West, Parks Victoria.

“Domestic firewood on public land is a limited resource that needs to be managed without impacting forest health. There will be some fallen timber on the ground which needs to be preserved as fauna habitat.”

“Our staff will patrol the collection area once it is closed. We encourage people to do the right thing and use alternative sources of firewood. On the spot fines and heavy penalties apply to people collecting from closed areas. Penalties including imprisonment can apply for serious offences,” said Mr Curwood.

Alternative sources of firewood include unrestricted public firewood collection areas across Victoria or commercial suppliers.

When purchasing firewood, ask to see the supplier’s commercial licence. It is an offence to sell domestic firewood collected during the firewood season.

Further information about firewood collection, including maps of open collection areas and regulations, is available at www.ffm.vic.gov.au/firewood

If you suspect anyone of illegal firewood activities please contact DELWP on 136 186 or Parks Victoria on 13 19 63.
