Albert Park Master Plan

City skyline view from Albert Park

A master plan is being drafted to set a 20 year vision for Albert Park to guide it through the next stage of its history. The next phase of engagement, which will be held in late October/November 2106, is to provide more detail to help develop the plan.  To be kept informed of engagement opportunities please register your interest by providing your name and preferred contact (postal or email) to

The story so far: The first phase

The first phase of engagement was held in 2014 to identify what is most important to people about Albert Park. It also identified what visitors consider are the key issues that need to be addressed. More than 500 individual stakeholders were engaged through open forums, onsite displays, online communications and targeted meetings.  Over 3,500 visits were made to the website and over 300 surveys were completed. Thank you to everyone who participated. This engagement provided vital information which informed the development of the:

Key developments since 2014

Since the commencement of the Albert Park Master Plan in early 2014, a number of important projects have further developed. These include:  planning for a new underground railway station (Domain Station) on St Kilda Road by the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority; redevelopment of Junction Oval by Cricket Victoria;  planning for the delivery of South Melbourne Park Primary School at the former Signals Depot and for a new park office within the park; and the recasting of the vision for the Fishermans Bend Urban Renewal project.

The park master planning process has been refined to accommodate these projects.

The Next Phase

The next phase of engagement will be to confirm a vision and key directions; and to test out some “big ideas” for making Albert Park even better.
