Total Fire Ban and Severe Fire Danger Rating

The CFA website lists forecast Fire Danger Ratings and Total Fire Ban declarations for Victoria as well as providing detailed information about what you can and can't do on a day of Total Fire Ban.

Some parks and picnic areas are regularly closed on a day of Total Fire Ban or forecast Severe Fire Danger Rating. Check individual park pages for details and alternatives.

On days of forecast Code Red Fire Danger, Parks Victoria and DSE will close parks and forests (including state forests and national parks) in the relevant weather district for public safety.

Total Fire Ban and Severe Fire Danger Rating closures

The following areas may be closed due to declaration of Total Fire Ban or forecast Severe Fire Danger Rating:

  • Braeside Park (Red Gum Picnic Area only)
  • Cardinia Reservoir Park (Duffys Picnic Area only)
  • Churchill National Park (main entrance and picnic area)
  • Dandenong Ranges Gardens:
    • Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens
    • George Tindale Memorial Gardens
    • National Rhododendron Garden
    • William Ricketts Sanctuary
    • RJ Hamer Arboretum BBQ area
    • Pirianda Gardens
  • Dandenong Ranges National Park visitor sites:
    • One Tree Hill
    • Sherbrooke
    • O’Donohue
    • Valley
    • Eagles Nest
    • Doongalla
    • Grants Picnic ground (south of kiosk)
    • Ferntree Gully
    • Kalorama Park
  • Sassafras Creek Nature Conservation Reserve
  • Silvan Reservoir Park
  • Haining Park (closed to school groups)
  • Ocean Grove Education Area (Nature Reserve)
  • Plenty Gorge Park (Yellow Gum Picnic Area incl. Blue Lake only)
  • Serendip Wetlands Education Facility
  • Warrandyte State Park visitor areas:
  • Jumping Creek Reserve
  • Koornong Reserve
  • Norman Reserve
  • Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve (closed to school groups)
