Barmah National Park Draft Strategic Action Plan
The draft Strategic Action Plan: Protection of floodplain marshes in Barmah National Park and Barmah Forest Ramsar site [2019-2023] has now been released for public consultation.
The four-year action plan outlines management strategies to improve the health of the internationally significant floodplain marshes in the Barmah Forest Ramsar Site and the Barmah National Park.
The draft plan sets out conservation actions to increase the extent and cover of the key wetland species, Moira grass, and associated wetland vegetation. The key conservation strategies include:
- improving current ecological water regimes
- controlling the grazing and impacts of feral horses, feral pigs, deer and goats, and
- managing invasive plants.
The draft plan has been developed following extensive consultation with Traditional Owners, community members, environmental groups and other stakeholders, and with input from specialists in veterinary science, natural resource management and animal welfare.
Public consultation is open until Thursday 30 May 2019 at www.engage.vic.gov.au/barmah-strategic-action-plan
