Cultural diversity and inclusion

The Victorian community is one of the most culturally diverse in the world, with more than 50% of the population from a migrant or refugee background. Our community includes people from 200 countries and more than 260 languages are spoken. Parks Victoria embraces and celebrates the cultural diversity of the Victorian community, and we are committed to providing accessible, safe, and inclusive park experiences for all.

We are also committed to a more culturally representative and inclusive organisation that recognises and values cultural diversity.

Making our parks and our organisation more inclusive for people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background is not just an equity and human rights issue. An inclusive organisation will provide many social, economic, and environmental benefits to all Victorians

For individuals this includes enabling increased connection to nature for health and wellbeing, improved environmental awareness and environmentally sustainable behaviours, a greater feeling of being welcomed into parks and more opportunities for participation in training, employment, and volunteering.

Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Plan

Parks Victoria is committed to providing parks that are inclusive for all Victorians, and which enable all visitors to obtain health and wellbeing benefits from visiting a park.

Through our updated Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Plan 2023-2026 (PDF), Parks Victoria will build its efforts to reduce barriers, make our parks more accessible to all and grow Parks Victoria to be a more inclusive and representative organisation.
