Canopus Circuit Trailhead (Long Forest Flora and Fauna Reserve)

Canopus Circuit Trailhead is one of four access points to Long Forest Flora and Fauna Reserve, a haven for bushwalkers within close proximity to Melbourne.

Rich with birdlife, spring wildflowers and ancient rock forms, the reserve is a fantastic spot for bushwalkers and birdwatchers. Walkers can explore the track network and enjoy the nature of this special place.

Canopus Circuit Trailhead offers a small parking area and access to the Coimadai Circuit Track. Please note there is no vehicle access into the reserve itself.

Dogs, fires and camping are not permitted.

Coimadai Circuit – 4km, 2.5 hours
Grade 3 walking track – involves slopes, uneven surfaces and some steps and creek crossings.
Start from Canopus Circuit Trailhead. Follow Long Point Track until it meets Coimadai Creek Trail. Turn left and walk until you reach Coimadai Track. Turn left and follow this until you intersect with Long Point Track again which returns you to Canopus Circuit carpark.

Visitor tips: There are no toilets or bins - please take your rubbish home. Walkers should wear sturdy footwear, a hat, sunscreen, clothing appropriate for the weather, and carry a map and sufficient water. There is no water provided in the park.

Long Forest FFR is in the Central fire district. Bushfire safety is a personal responsibility. Anyone entering parks and forests during the bushfire season needs to stay aware of forecast weather conditions. Check the Fire Danger Rating and for days of Total Fire Ban at www.emergency.vic.gov.au, on the VicEmergency smartphone app or call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226.
