The Gorge Day Visitor Area

Parking

There is a large, sealed carpark that has 59 angled parking bays, including two disabled parking bays. There is one designated disabled carparking bay close to the viewing area that looks out over the bluff. This parking bay has room for disembarking on the side and rear of the vehicle for visitors in wheelchairs. There is a small cross slope in this parking bay that wheelchair users should be aware of.

The second designated disabled carparking bay is at the other end of the carpark close to the visitor toilets. This parking bay is designed for passengers disembarking from the rear of a vehicle and also has a small cross slope.

Viewing Areas

There is a another viewing area adjacent to the main viewing area that is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. Located sixty metres from the nearest disabled parking bay, the lookout has been designed for all abilities access. This parking bay provides adequate room for disembarking from both sides of the vehicle for visitors in wheelchairs.

An accessible path to the lookout starts next to the parking bay, creating a continuous accessible path of travel to the lookout viewing area.

The path has a short, crushed and compacted rock section leading into a solid, compacted surface on the lower path sections. There is a continuous grab rail on the right side of the path that commences at the initial sloped sections of the path. At one section, there is a break in the hand rail for two metres to allow for cross traffic. Further along the path, the grab railing is provided on both sides. The sloped sections of the path have a gradient of approximately 1:14. The latter part of the path consists of a fibreglass, non-slip mesh ground surface.
