Braeside Park, a 310-hectare green-space oasis within Melbourne’s south-east suburbs, has experienced significant growth in visitation.  To acknowledge the changing use and pressures impacting the park and to pro-actively plan for the future, Parks Victoria worked with community, stakeholders and technical experts to prepare a Visitor Experience Plan for the park.

This included a two-stage engagement process in 2019 and 2020 to gather an understanding of the current values of Braeside Park, and test future opportunities in the park. The community indicated that they value Braeside Park for what it currently is, an oasis to enjoy nature and disconnect from the urban surrounds. Small facility improvements and future community activation initiatives are welcome, however there is a reluctance to introduce new activities or commercial operations within the park.

The Braeside Park Visitor Experience Plan provides direction for Braeside Park for the next 5-10 years, informing how the park is used and its natural and cultural assets protected. It provides short to medium term guidance for management decisions that support the park’s future direction.
