The project
This project is being delivered on Gadubanud Country.
Lake Elizabeth campground is sheltered by tall eucalypt trees and nestled beside the Barwon River in the Great Otway National Park. The peaceful Lake Elizabeth is a short 1km walk away.
The campground is being upgraded with better defined campsites, a new toilet for campers and day visitors, a new shelter, improved carparking and paths, new signs, and several new picnic tables and wood-fired barbecues. Native plants will also be planted to support biodiversity and to better define the campsites.

The upgrades will make it safer and easier and more enjoyable for a wide range of people to visit and stay in the camping area in the park.
Environment
Revegetation with native plants will support biodiversity in and around the camping area. Combined with better defined campsites and paths this will help keep people in designated areas, to further protect vegetation.
Project funding
This project has been funded with $627, 213 from Victoria’s Great Outdoors.
Victoria’s Great Outdoors is $106.6 million investment by the Victorian Government into better campgrounds, walking trails, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities across Victoria’s parks and state forests.
Environment and cultural heritage management
Key environmental permits and approvals will be sought from Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. A Cultural Heritage Management Plan will be prepared.

Access changes
Parks Victoria expects that the camping area will be closed while work is underway. Visitors are encouraged to consider other nearby options.
